Streaming Albums Should Sound Better
March 24th, 2008I’ve tweaked my network so that the streaming albums will hopefully sound better. By “streaming albums”, I’m referring to the albums that you can click on to play at will. The Internet radio stream has been fine right along. I hope the albums aren’t buffering as often for all of you now.
Streaming Albums - Poor Sound Quality
March 19th, 2008I have received a few e-mail reports from people experiencing poor sound quality when listening to the Streaming Albums. I’m out of town at the moment, and don’t have a way to look at the problem. However, I hope to have this resolved on Saturday, March 22 when I can get a look at the system. Thanks for your understanding, and I apologize for the problem. These things happen from time to time when running a site like this on a shoestring! ![]()
Streaming Albums All Set
January 29th, 2008Streaming albums should be functioning normally. Enjoy!
Streaming Albums Offline For The Moment
January 29th, 2008I had a bit of server trouble last night, and I haven’t worked out all the problems yet. For the moment, the Streaming Albums features of the website might not be working. I hope to have this resolved within 24 hours. I’ll post another message when Streaming Albums are back up and running. Thanks for your understanding!
In the meantime, the Internet Radio feature is working just fine.
Christmas Music On SMP Internet Radio
November 30th, 2007SMP Internet Radio now includes Christmas music in the audio stream. Not all the music is Christmas music, but a good bit of it is. The celebration of Christ’s birth is a glorious time in the life of any Christian, and so I hope that the Christmas music is a blessing as you listen.
Gospel Music Selections - New Internet Radio Stream
September 5th, 2007GMS plays traditional Christian music from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. When you tune in, you’ll hear light Southern gospel, inspirational, a little old-time gospel music, and excellent Bible teaching.
Gospel Music Selections is run by an anonymous friend of Sacred Music Preserved. It’s our hope that this free Internet radio stream is a blessing to you.
08/16/2007 - Internet Outage
August 16th, 2007A thunderstorm rolled through, and the Internet connection to the audio streaming server went down. Internet is still down at the moment. Hopefully it will be back up in the next few hours for your listening enjoyment!
Power Outages
May 31st, 2007Thunder and lightning here. Took a power hit on my firewall during a house-wide brownout, although I’m mystified as to why. Everyone’s audio streams would have broken when this happened. The firewall was on a UPS-protected power circuit; none of the other equipment on that circuit (including the audio server, cable modem and related networking gear) took a hit. Very odd. I shall move the firewall to a direct power feed on the UPS some time in the future. It may be I have a badly behaving power strip.
5 More 128K Slots Requested
April 9th, 2007I have requested 5 more slots be added to the SMP Internet Radio broadband stream, which will take it from 15 to 20 slots. Hopefully, this will quell some of the “server full” messages you may be getting as you try to listen to the Internet radio stream.
4/10 UPDATE - we should be getting the new slots added by 4/13 according to the company I use to host the stream.
Afternoon Hiccups
April 4th, 2007The regular listeners to SMP Internet Radio have no doubt noticed interruptions in the streaming audio. The issues started with most likely ISP issues - I was never able to conclude what, if anything, was the problem. Interruptions later in the day were due to my own maintenance on the firewall and audio server. Since the signal was a bit challenged, and I was home unexpectedly early because of a shifted work schedule, I took the opportunity to perform system maintenance.
So there you have it. I’ve been listening to the high-bandwidth Internet stream for the last 15 minutes, and it sounds good right now. No dropouts, no buffering, clean signal - only the “normal” clicks/pops endemic to the SMP audio, since it’s all pulled from vinyl. Let’s hope the signal stays clean. I don’t want to revisit an issue that I did with my ISP a year and a half ago, where they finally replaced the cable from the pole to my house because of water discovered in the line.
And on a side note, it’s snowing here like you can’t believe, 4-8 inches expected. Winter won’t let go without a fight this year. ![]()
